New Rondavous lead signer Amy Magnussen, left, says that her voice “fits like a glove” with Rondavous co-founder Pandy Raye’s, right.
Rondavous busy on rodeo circuit
Begins at Parada Del Sol on March 3
By Curtis Riggs
CAVE CREEK – Local fan favorite Rondavous is rapidly becoming one of the top rodeo bands in Arizona.
How well the seven-piece band fits into the statewide rodeo scene is evidenced by the fact Rondavous playing at a Parada Del Sol event at WestWorld on March 3.
Rondavous will take the stage after the evening rodeo at approximately 9 p.m.
The band will get some other top Valley exposure during Parada Del Sol when new lead singer Amy Magnussen sings the National Anthem at WestWorld on March 3. Singing the Star Spangled Banner is nothing new for the mezzo alto as she has sung the National Anthem at Phoenix Coyotes and Arizona Diamondbacks games.
Magnussen is stepping in for Rondavous co-founder Rhonda Roark who is taking “a little break” after singing in the band for seven years alongside her fellow band co-founder Pandy Raye. Roark plans to step up her writing and “get more creative” in her time away from the band.
Magnussen has grown to love Cave Creek over the years because it is, “just so Western out here.” Rondavous will bring its tour of statewide rodeos to Cave Creek on April 14 when they will take the stage at Harold’s Cave Creek Corral during the annual Fiesta Days celebration.
Young Country and Mogollon will also be at Harold’s on Saturday, April 14.
Rondavous will be playing at Matt’s Saloon on Whiskey Row in Prescott during the Frontier Days rodeo festivities over the 4th of July and at the Oxbow in Payson when the Payson Rodeo is going on this summer.
Being part of the rodeo scene is nothing new for Magnussen, who is a competitive barrel racer and has also created her own line of Western wear. She makes colorful belts called Rodeo Hotties. The Glendale resident rides her quarter horses, one a sorrel and one a Palomino, whenever she has some down time from her hectic music schedule.
She has won an Academy of Country Music competition three times and shines when she sings Patsy Cline or the Rondavous original Yesterday’s Rain.
“When she does her ballads the whole room gets quiet,” Raye said about how her new counterpart can capture a crowd with her voice.
“Her voice fills up the room,” is rapidly becoming the catch phrase among Rondavous faithful about how Magnussen is received when she sings songs that showcase her talent.
“When I heard her sing I knew she would really shine if somebody gave her the spotlight,” Raye said. “She has been in the shadows too long.” Since Magnussen came on board Rondavous has received several offers to record a new C.D., which will be their third.
The plan is to record some new original songs at Pinnacle Peak Recording sometime this summer or fall.
“This one will be from the heart,” Raye said about recording locally and using the entire band this time instead of studio musicians.

Cave Creek council meeting - February 27, 2007

If you are a supporter of live music in Cave Creek, you need to attend the
council meeting at the town hall Monday
(March 5). It is in regard to
the sound ordinance. If we don't speak up, this
will limit any outside
music in Cave Creek.
Starts at 7pm.

Rodeo/concert tickets - February 26, 2007

I was just informed that the rodeo tickets I gave out a few weeks ago, do NOT cover the concert.
(Rodeo only) Not to worry, if you live in Cave Creek...Harolds has a few dozen concert tickets at the hostess station. (please limit 2 per person
& call first since there aren't
very many there).
If you happen to live near the West side, we will also have more at the Stardust
Thurs-Fri night.
If you can't make it, let
me know and I will do my best to put you on a list
somehow. If not, the cost is $10 @ the door.
FYI..
Amy will sing the National Anthem at 7pm and then
the rodeo from 7-9.
We will start approx 9pm.
Come on out..
This is going to be fun!
