Taste of Cave Creek - September 20, 2008

Taste of Cave Creek to showcase food and music By Curtis Riggs | September 17, 2008 CAVE CREEK – Next Thursday’s Taste of Cave Creek community event will be all about sampling the best 15 Cave Creek eateries have to offer. It will also be about sitting back, and sometimes dancing to, a couple of the best bands around. The artistic side of the community goes along way toward making the community special. The Taste will be held at Stagecoach Village, northwest corner of Cave Creek Road and Galloway Drive, from 6 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25. Local favorites EastonAshe and Rondavous will be headlining the special evening. Fans of both local favorites are sure to come out to hear their hometown groups, with about 300 economic development officials who will be in town for the Governor’s Rural Economic Development Conference. “We feel like we are part of Cave Creek. Whenever we are asked to do anything like this we consider it a privilege,” said Rondavous’ Pandy Raye, who pitches in to help out in Cave Creek whenever she can. EastonAshe manager Bob Parness said the local boys who have made good nationally will “sure be excited to be back home” to perform at the Taste after a month of summer touring. “When they are away they really miss Cave Creek,” he said. To show Cave Creek’s artistic side to visiting officials and locals who may not be aware, films entered in last year’s Cave Creek Film & Arts Festival will be shown in a building in Stagecoach Village. Around 70 pieces of art and photographs, which were also entries in last year’s festival, will be displayed around the retail center. Artist Lance Headlee will be signing copies of Lean On Me, this year’s Wild West Days poster. The folks at Brix Wine Spot will have a number of boutique wines available for Taste

Chicks With Picks to be showcased in concert series
Tuesdays at the Buffalo Chip
By Curtis Riggs

CAVE CREEK – Arizona women in music will be taking center stage at the Buffalo Chip in coming weeks as the Arizona Chicks With Picks concert series gets underway.
The idea to showcase the role of women musicians in the Valley and throughout the state came when Rondavous founder Pandy Raye and Help Me Rhonda’s Rhonda Hitchcock got together to see how they could highlight the role of women in music locally.
“It will be great to have a venue that showcases all women,” said Hitchcock, who kicked off the all-women’s Tuesday night series a couple of weeks ago. “I can’t wait to see it grow.” A different Arizona female musician will perform at the Chip beginning at 7 p.m. each Tuesday. Cave Creek’s own Daisy Mallory took the stage this week before Raye and Rondavous’ Joe Swafford closed out the night with their acoustic performance.
Twenty female Arizona singers and players will perform before a March 2 concert that will feature all of the women.
This concert will be held in the Wagon Camp behind the Buffalo Chip. An even larger reunion concert is being planned for the fall.
“Someone needed to feature all of this talent,” Raye said about why she is involved with the concert series. “There needs to be a showcase for these women.
People need to know they are out there.” Hitchcock is happy to be involved in the series because she sees many talented female musicians and wants to help further their careers.
Mikelle Leigh will perform next week on Tuesday, Nov. 20 and Susie Hopman will follow on Nov. 27.
Laura Sawosko will be the first performer in the series in December when she takes the stage on Dec. 4. Rondavous lead singer Amy Magnussen will perform on Dec. 11. Jeordie will follow on Dec. 18.

If so, then the amateur Lake Pleasant Campground Cook-Off on Saturday, November 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. is calling your name!
